Childs Pose is also known as: Garbhasana / Embryo or Shashankasana / Hare pose.
This is a resting pose which can be used at any time you need rest from any Yoga exercise
The benefits of this pose are it is a gentle stretch for the hips, thighs and ankles.
- From Downward Facing Dog, drop the knees to the floor.
- Spread the knees as wide as the mat, keeping the big toes touching.
- Bring the belly to rest between the thighs and the forehead to the floor.
- There are two possible arm variations:
Either stretch the arms in front of you with the palms toward the floor or bring the arms back alongside the thighs with the palms facing upwards. Do whichever feel more comfortable to you.
Modifications: A) Place a blanket under the hips, knees and/or head. B) If pregnant, spread the knees wide apart to remove any pressure on the abdomen.
Variations: Open the knees wider to slide the arms between the legs reaching under the body and turn the head to the side.
BENEFIT of CHILD’S POSE
Child pose calms the body, mind and spirit and stimulates the third eye point. Child pose gently stretches the low back, massages and tones the abdominal organs, and stimulates digestion and elimination.
